Vervaeke's Meaning Masterclass

Here's some rather delicious food for thought. To ask questions about the wider world, you must start with questions about yourself. How do you perceive reality? What patterns are you picking up? Is our worldview a product of emotion or conscious, rational thinking? John Vervaeke's series, Awakening from the Meaning Crisis, seeks to answer those quandaries. It's a big beast - 50 hour long discussions covering philosophy, religion and cognitive science. But John's delivery, bombastic and subtle in equal measure, keeps you coming back for more. Admittedly I have yet to complete the full series (currently at episode 18). However I am compelled to offer some comment and share.

This feels like a welcome software update for my own perspective. I've been offered explanations for mental dilemmas such as existential inertia (feeling stuck) and parasitic processing (overthinking); afflictions which I am no stranger to. I've been introduced to the agent/arena relationship - a dynamic that gives us our sense of purpose. To demonstrate, consider the writer of these words (moi) as an agent. My arena is this site; an environment where I can enter a state of flow and derive great strength. Perhaps most importantly, I have been reminded of the value stoic ideals can bring to modern life. So not a bad haul really.

Now I must continue on my quest for further enlightenment. If you've just finished digesting Anthony Deden's epic worldview, then I highly suggest you bring some John Vervaeke into your life.

Signing out, Steven.
